Here's a list of common Chinese idioms for those who are completely lost.
Goes as:
[Chinese words] - [pin yin] - [meaning: literal; figurative]
*note - the numbers in the pin yin are the intonation.

1. 百发百中 - ba3i fa1 ba3i zho4ng - a hundred shots, a hundred bulls-eyes; flawless
2. 老马识途 - la3o ma3 shi2 tu2 - an old horse knows the way; experienced
3. 势如破竹 - shi4 ru2 po4 zhu2 - like splitting bamboo; PAWNAGE
4. 手不释卷 - sho3u bu4 shi4 jua4n - always with a book in hand; diligent in studying
5. 调虎离山 - dia4o hu3 li2 sha1n - luring the tiger out of the mountains; getting someone's weakness
6. 如鱼得水 - ru2 yu2 de2 shu3i - feel like a fish in the water; a soul-mate
7. 梁上君子 - lia2ng sha4ng ju1n zi - man in the rafters; a thief
8. 空中楼阁 - ko1ng zho1ng lo2u ge2 - castle in the sky; an impractical plan
9. 井底之蛙 - ji3ng di3 zhi1 wa1 - a frog in a well; shallow-minded guy
10. 一箭双雕 - yi1 jia4n shua1ng dia1o - killing two birds with one stone
