Quantifiers:
本 - be3n; counter for books, magazines, etc...
串 - chua4n; a bunch, or stick (also used for BBQs)
杯 - be1i; a glass (of a drink)
壶 - hu2; a pitcher of (or more commonly, a teapot of)
只 - zhi1; counter for animals (interchangeable with 条, when it comes to fish; but 条 is used when you're buying dead fish in the market)
张 - zha1ng; a sheet
餐 - ca1n; a meal (of some cuisine)
碗 - wa3n; a bowl of
块 - kua4i; a slice (NOTE: for thick stuff, like cake)

Shopping vocabulary:
太贵了! - ta4i gui4 le; too expensive!
太便宜!- ta4i pia2n yi3; too cheap (if you're the one selling)
可以吗? - ke3 yi3 ma1; is it okay with you?
可以不可以?- ke3 yi3 bu4 ke3 yi3; okay or not?
要不要?- ya4o bu3 ya4o; do you want?

Chinese New Year vocabulary

1。 吃年糕 = 年年高升
- chi1 nia2n ga1o = nia2n nia2n ga1o she1ng; eat tikoy = get promoted
2。 吃菜头糕 (萝卜糕)= 好彩头, 年年吉利
- chi1 ca4i to2u ga1o (luo2 bo2 ga1o) = ha3o ca3i to2u, nia2n nia2n ji2 li4; eat radish cake = good start, good luck every year
3。 吃发糕 = 大发财
- chi1 fa1 ga1o = da4 fa1 ca2i; eat "fa gao" (a kind of white cake that's always in a red cupcake wrapper) = big income
4。 吃长年菜 = 长命百岁
- chi1 cha2ng nia2n ca4i = cha2ng mi2ng ba3i sui4; eat mustasa = long life
5。 吃鱼 = 年年有余
- chi1 yu3 = nia2n nia2n yo3u yu3; eat fish = good savings every year
6。 压岁钱 = 红包
- ya1 sui4 qia2n = ho2ng ba1o; money given to kids = red envelope (sorry, not sure what Laoshi meant by this...)

- go1ng xi3 fa1 ca2i; congratulations! My, you've prospered!

- da4 ji2 da4 li4; really good luck
